Super Angel 5500 Stainless Steel Juicer Review

There’s an unwritten law of appliance averages which says a $49 model is for beginners, the $129 is the upgraded version, and the $249 price point is for enthusiasts. Juice extractors are no different, really, and we as consumers are lucky: at each of those price points you can generally find a quality juicer. In our industry, $300 will buy you a juice machine that can handle just about any carrot or beet you send down its chute.

So when a company decides to make only one juicer as the cornerstone of their business and sell it for 2-3 times higher than anything else out there, it better be amazing. Not just a little bit amazing. $990 amazing.

Lucky for them, US Juicers succeeds at doing just that, and they’ve been doing this gig well for over 25 years. But it begs the question right up front:

Is This Juicer Worth $1,000?

You’ll no doubt be able to find plenty of websites that tell you it is. They want you to buy it-and you’ll find the same information all over the web. We’d like to think that we’re different at www.bestjuicersite.org; we’re not here to sell you anything or convince you one way or the other. We feel that if you’re considering buying a $1,000 juicer, you should have all the information you need to come to your own conclusions.

We’ll hopefully accomplish this in our Super Angel juicer review by switching from our regular format, to the tried and true, “PROS and CONS” since it works so well. It may not be very original, but it’s easily understandable. If you are considering the Super Angel 5500, you probably are also looking at the Green Star or Norwalk juicers and this may help you compare. Make no mistake, the Super Angel 5500 is a great juicer, but it’s not perfect-and you have to decide for yourself whether the PROS we’ll cover outweigh the CONS.

Let’s get started.

PROS: Juice extraction is absolutely #1

No other juicer can compare to the amount of juice super angel juicers can get from one piece of fruit or vegetable. None. You’ll find plenty of videos online demonstrating this: the Angel will, ounce for ounce, draw out more juice from the same item through its’ super efficient trituration. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it simply means grinding. The company estimates the level of raw juice extraction at 20-30% more but we think that’s probably being modest. In most cases, the Super Angel does this with less pulp and foam; two things that would add bulk to the extraction from another juicer. More juice=savings on produce.

Below is a quick chart we assembled from a popular juicer review video made by eujuicers.com. They compare the Super Angel 5500 vs. Omega VRT350HD (one of our Best Juicer Winners). Each juicer was set up exactly the same and given the same starting weight of produce. The juice extracted was then weighed after each machine was finished. We’ve summed up the data they collected. Total juice weight is in grams:

As you can see, the Super Angel 5500 juicer really rocked even the Omega VRT350HD-which we love. From these numbers, you can do the math: if you get an average of 5-40% more out of your juicer on each use, it will eventually pay for itself.

Let’s say you spend on average $20 a week on fruits and vegetables for your juicer. Some spend lots more-especially with organic, but that’s probably a decent average. Getting 25% more juice out of the same produce means you can spend $5 less per week. It doesn’t seem like much but it really adds up. Over two years that’s almost $500 in savings-and that’s only if you casually juice. Juice fanatics out there will see even bigger savings. Organic fruits and veg certainly aren’t getting any cheaper.

The Super Angel 5500′s yield is not just higher, either. Reviewers online say the quality of juice that comes out of the Angel is richer-perhaps due to the smaller quantity of pulp. Lettuces extract with a deeper green and carrots a more vibrant orange color juice from the Super Angel than other machines.

Reviewer from Amazon.com:

“Very high yield. Saves a great deal of money over time especially when juicing organic produce. I cannot stress this enough… …the quality of juice that comes out of the triturating juicer (Angel) is so high that there is no point in looking at anything else.”

Our research uncovered many reviews like this one, saying the Super Angel does an exceptionally good job getting more juice out of softer fruits like oranges, pineapple, grapes and even pomegranates. These can go in whole without worrying about seeds. But where the Angel really excels is at juicing greens. Spinach and kale are highly recommended for the Angel and there is very little pulp ejected. This includes wheatgrass, which juicers generally have a difficult time with.

PROS: Stainless Steel Everything

SUS-304 steel augers

The advantages of stainless steel juicers are immediately obvious to anyone that has used plastic to juice: it discolors quickly. Carrots and beets quickly stain a juicer and the Super Angel should stay looking brand new for longer with proper care. In addition, the company makes the claim: “No toxins from plastic will ever be in your juice.” We aren’t totally sold on that idea yet, but the stainless steel certainly seems more antiseptic and also easier to keep clean.

PROS: Solid Construction Quality

Both the motor and the twin augers are very heavy and sturdy-and these are what get the work done in a triturating juicer. The company claims the dual auger screws are made from an even higher quality stainless steel called SUS-304 that is stronger than regular steel. A hefty, 180 Watt, ¼ HP motor drives the screws at 3 HP to juice just about anything sent down the chute. While in use, the Angel is super-quiet, being described as “a little noisier than a loud fridge, but much, much quieter than a centrifugal juicer.”

No doubt the Super Angel has reason to boast. But let’s take a look at what could be some drawbacks to this pricey machine:

CONS: It’s Slow

No getting around this: the Super Angel juicer is slower than a centrifugal juicer. Juicing times are increased by at least an additional 5-10 minutes as the triturating process cannot compete on RPMs with a centrifugal machine. But it’s not supposed to, and the 86 RPMs are slow for a reason: better extraction and less foam. Lettuce greens juice simply cannot be extracted properly at 1,000 RPMS and centrifugals fall short in this category.

We debated putting this in the CONS category as it isn’t a failure of the machine by any means. It’s just something you should be aware of-your juicing times with the Super Angel will be slightly longer than any Breville.

In addition, the Angel’s feed chute is smaller (1.7 inches) than most centrifugal mouths. You will have to quarter apples and cut up larger vegetables to feed the Super Angel. This will add some additional time to your juicing process.

CONS: Longer Cleanup Time

Hotly debated online and largely a stalemate between the two sides. We mention it here as 50% of you will complain about it taking longer to clean the Super Angel and the other half will not. Essentially, there are really only 3 parts to clean after each juicing: the two gears and one screen. Then any wipe down of the machine, of course. The debate online boils down to how long it takes to clean the screen.

Let’s hear from both sides:

From an Amazon Reviewer:

“The plus side is that the gears are very easy to clean, just pour water on it and the pulp just rinses away. The screen is a different story altogether. The screen length is very long which is great for getting a high juice yield but tough to clean. Your hands can not reach all the way inside so you have to use the included brush and then scrub for a very long time. “

And the other side of the argument:

From an Amazon Reviewer:

“It takes less than three minutes if you wash immediately after juicing. The brush that comes with the unit is necessary to clean the screen, but even that takes less than a minute, if you scrub it under running water. It’s no more time consuming than cleaning the screen of any other juicer. “

To us, the endless debate (and you can find lots of the above online) is simply the argument for separately cleaning the screen by hand. Which if you’ve been reading any of our juicer reviews for any length of time you’ll note we always tell you to take time to do this properly. Keeping the mesh clean with a brush by hand is one of the best ways to ensure the longevity of your juicer.

CONS: Miscellaneous

We found a few users commenting that some soft fruits like strawberries and kiwis clog up the screen if pushed through the Super Angel too quickly. You’ll find soft fruits have this problem in other juicers as well, and you should alternate firm vegetables like carrots along with the fruits to mitigate.

Many users initially complained that the included plastic containers for collecting the juice and pulp were cheaply made and did not mirror the high quality of the juicer. US Juicers has recently pulled the plastic and replaced these with glass collectors. On their website they again mention the evils of toxins in plastics-again, we don’t agree but it’s nice to see the manufacturer listen to any user complaints. If you order from Amazon you are assured to only get the glass collection bins.

We’d like to note that there are knock-off versions online and the company is trying to inform customers to how to avoid. If you do wind up purchasing this juicer please ensure you are getting the correct US Juicers version and not a copycat.

Summary

Earlier we asked if this juicer was worth $1,000. Yes, it is. Is it worth $1,000 to you? We can’t answer that.

We hope we have provided you with as much information to make your own judgment. If you’ve taken the trouble to read what is probably the longest Super Angel review online (whew!) then you’re obviously interested in whether or not this juicer is for you. Being very blunt, we’ll say that depends entirely on your commitment to juicing. We’ve heard people online say that spending such a large amount of money has helped to ensure they stay committed to juicing and adopt a healthier lifestyle. If that sounds like you then this may be exactly what you need.

But, yes, if you only juice occasionally there are more affordable options available.

In the end, we feel the PROS certainly outweigh the CONS. It’s a good investment for your health and the health of your family. It is extremely well built and should last a very long time. US Juicers sticks a very nice 10-year warranty on their machine and we think you’ll certainly get that out of the machine.

With the highest levels of extraction out of any juicer, you can end up saving a ton of money in the long run on produce. It’s a huge investment up front, it’s a very big commitment to a lifestyle change, and it’s a personal decision.

But we think it’s worth it. So much so, we’re calling it the Best High-End Juicer of 2012:

Where to buy the Super Angel:

Dual-Stage Vertical Single Auger Low Speed Juicer

Take all the benefits of a masticating juicer: slow speed and auger grind and turn it on its head. Listen to what your customer base has been saying and make improvements. That’s what Omega has done with the revolutionary design of the VRT350HD, and so far it’s been a big hit. It’s a radical change to juicer design in an industry that has seemed to be perfectly happy with where it’s at.

Over the years Omega has built up an enviable position in the masticating juicer market and it should be no surprise that innovation would start here. However, in the appliance industry so often big change comes from outside companies-and the creative process shifts. So kudos to Omega for maintaining an edge in design and efficiency.

Omega VRT350HD Features:

Omega VRT350HD Vertical Juicer Review

If Dyson got out of the vacuuming business and started making juicers, the Vert350 would be their product.

It’s innovative, it’s driven by great technical design and it solves some long-standing problems inherent within its category. And it’s also one of the best juicers we’ve ever seen.

Without gushing, the VRT350 HD has all the elements we love in a masticating juicer but few of the drawbacks. It uses gravity to pull the food through the chute via the vertical design down into the auger. Spinning at only 80 rpms but driven by a strong 2 HP motor, the food is crushed and the pulp extrudes past the auger into a mesh basket.

This arrangement is not just a novelty, either-once past the auger there is a two-stage screen procedure that further improves on the output of the juice. As the food is “chewed” through single-auger screw, this mesh basket screens out the pulp and a final wiping blade spins around the whole assembly to keep the screens clean.

It’s a thoroughly enjoyable process to watch-this is one of the first juicers we’re seeing people online are reporting having fun just using it. No pushing is required down the chute as in a horizontal masticating juicer. It’s a small joy just to watch it work.

If you haven’t guessed by now, we’ll say up front that we adore the Omega 350 HD. Users across the net seem to love it as well-in fact it’s one of the highest rated products on Amazon.com. Reasons abound: It’s perhaps one of the quietest juicers around. It stays cool due to its slow speed and chews away at the food through this vertical auger. It can handle any and all fruits and vegetables-especially wheatgrass. If you have any intentions of growing your own wheatgrass through a kit, this is the juicer to have. And on and on. One reviewer remarked regarding carrots, “I can’t cut off the tops fast enough-it just eats em right up. That alone is worth the price of admission…I LOVE this machine.”

The Best Juicer? Our Impressions

Reviewing the Omega VRT350HD itself reveals quality materials in the construction. A very sturdy base and interlocking component design make up the exterior. But the heart and soul of any masticating juicer is in the auger gear, and this one is made from a very dense synthetic copolymer called ULTEM. This fairly recent innovation from GE is known as an amorphous thermoplastic which they describe as “virtually indestructible.” That’s good hard plastic to us and it gets the job done.

The Automatic Cleaning System is unique to the vertical juice extractor but it’s not just there to look cool. In other masticating juicers, heavier fruits tend to clog up the screen, reducing efficiency. The wiping process not only keeps the screen clear, but it also gives the extraction process one more chance to squeeze any extra remaining juice from the pulp. It’s one of the most innovative features of this juicer and it works extremely well to max out the amount of juice extracted. Given the high price of organic produce these days, getting the most juice out of your fruits is a real cost-saver.

The VRT350 assembles quickly without any issue and the filter basket and main unit have an alignment arrow for placement with the other parts. The instruction manual is not really needed for assembly. Depending on the level of pulp you like in your juice, you can choose between two strainer baskets (fine and course).

In action, the Omega VRT350HD shines. Two included exterior cups catch the action-one for the juice and one for the waste. It chews through hard fruits and vegetables efficiently and returns nicely dry waste pulp. One of the reasons many people upgrade to a masticating juicer is to extract more juice from leafy greens, like kale and collard greens-and here the VRT350 does not disappoint. It’s a slower extraction process so it does take a bit more time than a centrifugal, but the time is well worth it in higher juice yields.

Cleanup is the same as with a centrifugal juicer-with one extra step, however. Disassembly is quick-all the parts and pieces can go in the dishwasher if needed but the screen must be scrubbed clean with the included oversized toothbrush. We are like a broken record in all our juicer machine reviews at The Best Juicer Site. Always scrub your mesh screens! In addition, the wiper blade is a separate unit but this is easily scrubbed right along with the screen. Expect to spend perhaps an additional minute or so.

Reassembly is a breeze: align the arrow so the heavy pieces lock together in a snap. Very satisfying clicks.

Omega VRT350HD vs. Omega VRT330

Any time an appliance maker releases a newer model there is the inevitable need to compare it to the previous version. Especially when there is a difference in price-which in this case is significant. In this case, the VRT350 is an upgrade to the VRT330 and it specifically addresses one of the complaints users had with the vertical juicer-the screener basket. By comparison of parts, the Omega 350 vs. Omega 330 reveals they are nearly identical in every respect-in fact, nearly all of the pieces of the 350 and 330 can be interchangeably swapped with one another.

But by listening to the complaints of customers that were heavy juicers, Omega radically improved the material used in the screener basket design. For regular use the material was acceptable but for heavy, daily use there were reports of cracks in the screen housing. The VRT350 screener basket is made from the tougher-grade plastic (see the GE ULTEM, above) which Omega claims is now eight times stronger than the original filter housing.

The 330 screen is not flawed by any means and is perfectly acceptable for users that don’t plan on juicing every day. As a matter of fact, users of the VRT330 can actually purchase the heavy-duty VRT350 screen separately if they wish from Omega (around $30) and it should work with their machine (check the model number, though).

If you are not a heavy user then a debate of the VRT350 versus the VRT330 is easier-it largely comes down to price and color. The other difference between the two is the paint job-the VRT350 comes in a silver with black finish whereas the 330 is white. If your kitchen is one of those done in stainless steel then the VRT350 may be more desirable.

Omega VRT350HD: The Cons

Are there any downsides? Yes, there are a few-and they make you think about your commitment to juicing.

Firstly, it’s expensive. Like the Dysons, an Omega VRT350HD is far and away above the average price for any juicer-even quality masticating ones. It’s a minimum $80 more than the 8005 Nutrition Center and at least $100 more than most high-end Breville centrifugals. Being the best has some privileges, we suppose.

Juicing times are slower, too. The auger and masticating process is not as fast as a centrifugal-but that’s the case with all masticating juicers. At the slow, 80 revolutions per minute speed this is again more like a “chewer” than juicer. The jury is still out scientifically, but the common wisdom is that any high-speed process might oxidize the juice and reduces the nutritional output. We’re still quite not on that bandwagon just yet but we understand the logic. One thing’s for certain, though, the slower process will give you less watery juice with a higher yield on the fiber and nutrients. Omega claims the juice extracted through this process will last up to 72 hours in the refrigerator. Again, with the high cost of organic fruits and vegetables these days this is definitely a plus.

Hey, even in the negatives there are positives.

One last issue some have noted is that the Omega VRT350HD produces more foam than other juicers due to the two-stage extraction process. For some users this can be anything from a minor annoyance to an actual negative. For most, you can stir the foam easily back into the juice as it’s certainly drinkable. If it is an issue, we recommend you place a small strainer at the top of the juice catcher during juicing. Or you can just use a spoon to remove the froth.

Omega goes a long way to make sure this is your end-all, be-all juicer by sticking on one of the longest warranties you’ll find in a juicing machine: 10 years. If you’ve done your homework shopping for a vertical masticating juicer then you may have the Hurom Slow Juicer on your short list as well. The Hurom is similar in design and around $30 less but only carries a 1-year warranty. That makes this an easy choice for us for the Best Overall Juicer for 2012:

Summary

In short, the few issues we have are really minor compared to the outstanding quality of this machine. It’s not cheap by any measure, but at least you can consider it an investment in your health. In a perfect world this juicer would be subsidized by the government and every person could have one and we’d reduce our health care costs as a nation simply by juicing our way to great health. Well, we can dream.

If you are able to make the financial commitment and are truly looking to make juicing a part of your life, then this is by far the best juicer for your money. It simply excels at everything we want in two juicers rolled into one and backs up the whole shebang with a whopping 10-year warranty. If you’re in that sweet spot of really doing your homework before buying a great juicer then in our opinion your work is done.

It’s the Dyson of Juicers.

With some of the most famous brands in the business including Proctor Silex® and TrueAir®, Hamilton Beach sells more than 35 million appliances each year.

Founded in Racine, Wisconsin in 1910, the company’s main product was the Hamilton Beach Drink Mixer which made milk shakes with malt powder. The small company continued to grow throughout the 20th century, finally merging in 1990 with Proctor Silex. Combining good customer service with value pricing has given Hamilton Beach a leading edge across a variety of small kitchen appliances.

Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro 67650 Review

The Big Mouth Pro gets its name from the large feed chute which allows for whole foods to go in without extra prep. This saves time when juicing as it can handle small apples and larger carrots straight from the bag. However, we find the name to be a bit of a misnomer as many quality centrifugal juicers on the market today have the same chute size (3 inches). There’s a slight drawback to having a big feed chute, however. While the Big Mouth Pro will take just about any fruits and vegetables, they have a tendency to “bounce” around due to the large feed chute, and you’ll want to have the plunger ready to steady the produce as it goes in. It’s a little hard to describe, but with older juicers the mouth size was smaller and kept the fruit from vibrating around prior to juicing. But you had to cut the fruit up, and with this one you don’t.

Seriously, you’d be hard pressed (no pun intended) to find a cucumber large enough that you couldn’t put it straight in the Big Mouth Pro. It’s a real time saver.

We found many happy customers online with lots of positive reviews calling the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro 67650 the Best Value Juicer they’ve ever owned. This is due to the low price point, of course: it’s one of the least expensive juicers on the market today. At a suggested manufacturer retail price of $79.99 (we found it much less through other online retailers-more on that in a bit), it is at least $30 cheaper than the comparable Breville.

While we don’t feel that price should be the main factor in selecting any appliance, some of the best juicer reviews we’ve seen rate this machine solely on value for the money.

There are other factors which make this a great juice extractor. It has an extremely powerful motor (1.1 HP, which translates to 820 watts) for its price point. The comparable Breville BJE200XL is only 700 watts. The Big Mouth Pro motor can handle any hard and soft fruits you can throw at it-from carrots to broccoli stems. The stainless steel mesh blade has a fine sieve which keeps larger food particles from ending up in the juice. All the parts are dishwasher safe and it comes with a 1-year warranty. A small, but added bonus is the included juice collector cup. While this may not seem like much, it is perfectly sized for the juicer spout height. You’d be surprised how many juicers don’t include this little extra.

With all the basics covered and then some, the Hamilton Beach 67650 is a good choice for your first juicer. It is easy to clean as the parts quickly disassemble and can go straight into the dishwasher. The Big Mouth Pro comes with a simple cleaning brush, in which we always advise using on the mesh blade to remove any particulate matter in the screen. Doing this while the blade is still wet is imperative to keeping your machine clean.

One caveat when shopping for Hamilton Beach Juicers online, however: Check your model number carefully! We recommend the Hamilton Beach Big 67650 over the Hamilton Beach 67608 for two reasons: Both are “Big Mouth Juice Extractors” but the 67650 has a slightly more powerful motor over the 67608’s 800 watts. The second reason is the biggest, however: the 67608 has plastic locking clips whereas the 67650 has die cast metal locking latches. They are sturdier than the plastic and less prone to break. Oddily enough, both machines are priced the same on the manufacturer’s web site. It can be confusing, but just make sure to stick with the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro 67650.

One more note we should add about Hamilton Beach: There was a recall in November 2001 on six juicer models, the :67150, 67180, 67180W, 395WS, 67199 and the 3920JS. It comprised of over 2 million juicers and was a voluntary recall by the company for “strainer basket and lid breaking apart and projecting metal and plastic into the air.” While this sounds alarming, we do note that this was over 10 years ago and Hamilton Beach appears to have remedied any issues. The Big Mouth Pro was not involved in the recall. But ALWAYS be sure to check the model number when purchasing ANY kitchen appliance online. Avoid websites that do not give model number information.

Best Juicer Site Recommendation

All that being said, with over 500 customer reviews at Amazon.com this is easily one of the most popular juicers on the market today. It has a combined rating on the site of 4.2 stars out of 5-which is a great rating given the quantity of reviewers. And for a good simple reason: It has a powerful motor and a budget price. For this we feel comfortable recommending the Big Mouth Pro to our readers. It’s simply one of the best starter juicers for the money today. In fact, it wins our award for the Best Value Juicer, 2012.

To that point, we have found Amazon to have a fantastic deal going on right now: they have the Hamilton Beach 67650 Big Mouth Pro for less than $70 through this link. To us, that’s an awesome-ly low price to get into juicing. Not sure how long the price is going to be this low, but dollar for dollar that makes the Big Mouth Pro 67650 one of the best juicers to buy.

Yes, for some Americans born before 1950, this might have been their first introduction to the world of juicing-and Jack Lalanne was the one showing ‘em how to use it. If ever a person was born to fill the role of celebrity juice pitchman, Jack Lalanne was it. Way before he started selling juicers, Jack made a career of being the “godfather of fitness” by pioneering the new fitness movement blasting through America. This respect carried throughout his entire career and his Power Juicer Pro line holds an enviable market share around the globe.

With the catchphrase that has been heard by every late-night infomercial junkee, “That’s the power of the juice!” Jack’s line of Power Juicers extended its reach into retail chains such as Target and Walmart.

If you’ve ever shopped for a juice extractor, chances are high you’ve considered one of Jack’s.

Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Pro Review

Lalanne’s juicers are some of the most popular juicers on the market today, and the Pro is the elite version of the Power Classic model. It’s an upgrade on several levels: the first being the stainless steel exterior. It’s a good looking appliance-and can certainly live full time on the countertop. The motor spins at a capable 3,600 RPMs and cleanup is relatively easy. It’s not hard to see why a Lalanne Juicer is one of the first juicers most people consider

At Best Juicer Site we of course separate the good reviews from the bad-but we’re aware that sometimes positive reviews simply are a result of the user being happy with the process. If, for example you happen to be satisfied with the healthy benefits that juicing has brought your life, you may just echo that sentiment throughout your review and never really rate the machine. If the machine in question happens to be entry-level, well then, the reviews are even less credible.

In a nutshell, you can find many good reviews of the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer online. And we aren’t here to knock the PJP by any means-it is a quality product and whatever brings you to juicing is a positive thing. Let’s just say if you’ve owned other juicers in the past, you may be looking for something more than the what the Power Juicer Pro brings to the party.

As an example, consider the cleanup of the Lalanne. While it is relatively simple, it requires a special crescent tool to remove the mesh blade from the motor base. This isn’t a big hassle, but there just aren’t any other machines out there which require a tool to tear the unit down for cleaning. If this is your first juicer it’s probably your assumption this is standard for centrifugal extractors. It’s not, and the fact is no matter how simple it is to use if you lose this piece then you’re stuck ordering one ($7.99 from the company’s http://www.powerjuicer.com/ website.

Reviews are generally positive all over the web, however. There have been a few mentions of a leaky seal between the pulp bin and the housing-one reviewer fixed this himself with an additional o-ring. This is not common, though. Some users complain that the juicing exit spout is relatively low-requiring the use of a smaller catch cup. This can be inconvienient in having to empty more often than juicers with a higher spout.

Best Juicer Site Recommendation

In the end, we just cannot give the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Pro our Best Juicer recommendation. The price is a typical swee-spot for those looking to spend a little more than a Hamilton Beach but not quite so much as a Breville. Don’t get us wrong: this isn’t a bad juicer. If it’s your first juicer then welcome to juicing and welcome to our club. If it’s not, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Yes, Target has the PJP, but we’ve found Amazon.com to have the best price including free shipping on the Power Juicer Pro

The little Australian company that first made toasted sandwich makers has spread their appliance line worldwide in over 30 countries and boasts more than 40 international design awards.

The Breville 800JEXL bears the Elite moniker with top of the line materials, design and efficiency. And if you’re going to put “elite” in the name then you’d better be good. The 800JEXL’s stainless steel exterior makes for an attractive-looking countertop piece and a 13,000 RPM motor ensures near-commercial performance. An extra-wide 3-in. feed chute enables you to save prep time by cutting less prior to extraction.

Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite Review

One of the hardest things to accept about juicing is that you throw away so much. It’s the nature of all juicers that what makes up the bulk of the fruit or vegetable just plain gets tossed into the pulp bin. Given the price of quality vegetables it can be a painful realization-even if you live in an area with access to great produce markets.

A good juicer can make up for some of that, though, and if you’re shopping for the best centrifugal juicer then you’ll need a high-rpm motor to extract the most juice. Having 1,000 watts at your disposal with the Elite, Breville is obviously figuring that will get the job done. And all that certainly seems to work as advertised: this is one of the highest rated items on Amazon.com.

There’s a good reason for that, too, as Breville seems to have pulled out all the stops for the Elite. It has an appealing look with a stainless steel exterior and powerful two-speed motor. Reviewers love the wide feed chute which allows for nearly whole vegetables without cutting them up first. We say nearly as you’ll still need to cut apples unless they happen to be relatively small. Unlike many centrifugal juicers, the chute is centered directly above the blade instead of being offset to one side. Given the powerful motor, this has led to some near comical comments by the reviewers that you have to be careful not to send food down the chute without the plunger as it could launch back up the tube!

Might be just a bit of exaggeration, there. For the most part, however, the reviews are extremely positive: saying such things as “nothing I could throw at it would slow the Breville down,” and “you can tell the manufacturer put time not only into the mechanics, but also the design: it looks awesome on my counter!” Several reviewers even called the Breville 800JEXL “perfect.” While glowing reviews about a product are informative, we here at Best Juicer Site sometimes get more data out of the negative impressions. Here’s where you can get the collective true picture of what the real user experience is with a product. Since there are so many “pros” out there, we thought we’d first look at the “cons.”

Two things stand out in particular as common complaints by owners. One is that care needs to be taken not to actually juice too quickly. With the high-speed motor some users were reporting that if they force the food through too quickly it could leak slightly as there is a rather large separation between the blade and the chute. Only so much juice can flow through the mesh at one time and forcing the fruit through could overwhelm the basket. Going slower kept this problem from occurring.

Second complaint found in the negative reviews was in the level of noise generated when using the high-speed setting. Some compared this to a jet taking off in the kitchen. However, given the power of the motor and the option of using the slower setting if noise it truly a problem we didn’t feel this warranted a bad mark. Let’s face it, centrifugal juicers are loud to begin with. If you want quiet, then get a slow masticator.

Although these negatives have a common thread, they were few and far between. In fact, the Breville has so many good reviews we found this added a large amount of credibility to the Elite. It just may be deserving of the name after all.

Cleanup was universally praised as being very simple and quick-even to the surprise of several reviewers. A plastic baggie in the pulp bin (which is a nice size, by the way) makes cleanup even quicker. Teardown takes less than 30 seconds and everything can go straight into the dishwasher. We find this is generally the case with recent-model centrifugal juicers, although we always recommend the extra step of cleaning of the mesh screen carefully with a brush. It can safely be placed in the top of the dishwasher, but we find that a brief minute spent scrubbing will certainly extend the life of any juicer. Just do it.

One last bit we’d like to mention has to do with the warranty length. A 1-year warranty is common among appliances, but actually fairly short for high-end juicers. Some of the Omega juicers featured on this site carry a 10-year warranty. If this concerns you, then you may want to look elsewhere. However, given the high-quality parts used in the 800JEXL and Breville’s excellent customer service, we believe that if something is really going to go wrong with this juicer, it’ll happen within the warranty period.

Best Juicer Site Recommendation

All in all we really couldn’t find too many bad things to be said about the 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite. The look and performance are absolutely top-notch, the pulp comes out relatively dry and it blasts through harder vegetables like carrots with abandon. It’s a bit pricey on the overall juicer front-but at least you are getting one of the highest quality centrifugal juicers that money can buy. If you are serious about getting into juicing, the Breville 800JEXL is one serious juicer.

We’ve found Amazon.com to have the best price on Breville Juicers. Right now you can save 25% and get shipping included through this link.

Omega J8005 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer

After spending 20 years as the President of Acme Juicer Manufacturing Company, Omega founder Robert Leo decided to take his juicing knowledge and launch his own brand. Omega Products was thus born in 1985, and has since become a major player in the masticating juicer niche. They offer centrifugal and pulp ejection styles as well, but have become most known for the line which now includes a recent newcomer: the vertical masticating juicer. If you’re still stuck on what is the best juicer type, hit the link for an explanation.

The J8005 has a two-stage masticating system which involves crushing up the food first with a screw auger before passing it through a screen to remove the juice. This allows for a slightly higher pulp content in the juice which may add some nutritional content versus a fast centrifugal juicer. The slower-speed induction motor process enables the juicing of difficult fibrous foods like wheatgrass and greens.

Omega J8005 Nutrition Center Features:

Commercial-quality masticating juicer

Low-speed of 80 RPMs – best for leafy greens juice extraction

1/3 Horsepower single-phase induction motor

Two-stage extraction system with no heat build up or oxygenation

Can be used as a grinder, food processor, pasta machine, etc. in addition to juicing

14.5 x 6.5 x 15.5 measurements

10 year warranty

Omega J8005 Nutrition Center Juicer Review

Masticating juicers often are seen as the “next” juicer you own if you’re serious about juicing. For most people, a centrifugal juicer like a Jack Lalanne or a Breville is their first. Then they do one of two things: they either a) stop juicing, or, b) look to upgrade their machine. Sticking with a centrifugal alone is fine for most fruits and general veg, but when you move into greens and eventually wheatgrass you’re going to need something more.

If you’re looking to make that upgrade, chances are you’ve already taken a peek at the Omega J8005. And for good reason-this is a quality juicer with a tremendous amount of great reviews online. As a matter of fact, we even found it hard to find some negatives. In most instances, the negative comments we could find seemed to users that would have been happy with a centrifugal juicer and left it at that.

With all the glowing reviews we waded through, the users seemed to be in agreement on several key points. One: that the Omega J8005 is much quieter than any juicer they’ve ever used. This is usually the case with the auger-type juicer as the motor turns at such a slower speed and makes less of a racket.

Two: the cleanup is extremely easy, despite what you might have read regarding dual stage juicers. The Omega J8005 comes with 2 plastic bins for the juice and pulp and there are no sharp parts. There’s no fine mesh to clean, either, but rather just the pulp screen from below the main assembly. In short, there are a total of 5 parts that need washing and the whole teardown and clean takes less than 3 minutes. And like in high-end masticating juicers, the J8005 does include a reverse button should for some reason something gets stuck. Handy.

And third, the reviews for the most part agreed that the Omega J8005 is made of high-quality materials. Good seals means no leaks and the auger and assembly pieces are high grade plastic with great longevity. In particular, a reviewer mentioned that in the 5 years he’s owned the juicer, the screen was the only thing to show real wear. After a letter to Omega, he received his replacement part free of charge. It’s nice to see a company really standing behind their products-even after half a decade. To that point, the Omega J8005’s 10-year warranty is one of the longest in the business. For those wondering, one of the differences between the J8005 vs. the J8006 is the warranty length. The J8006 comes with a 15-year warranty.

There are just so many good things said about the J8005 that it’s hard to find a negative. The only consistent potental drawback we could find was in the size of the feeder chute being small and requiring cut-up prep time for larger fruits. Folding up large leaf vegetables like chard is a must, but for those searching for the best juicer for leafy greens this is not a problem. For these minor negatives there were countless positives, however.

One review mentioned a nice surprise with the J8005 and that was getting a good amount of juice from a single orange. This would negate needing a separate citrus juicer and makes the Omega J8005 deserve its title of Nutrition Center. About that moniker, by the way: the J8005 also will do nut butters quite efficiently although most users rarely use that feature. The Omega juicer boasts the additional ability to grind coffee beans and extrude pasta, but we couldn’t find any reviews from those actually using the J8005 for those purposes.

Best Juicer Site Recommendation

In short, we can easily give the Omega J8005 our recommendation as one of the best juice extractors we’ve seen. Given the price point, however, it’s not entry-level if you’ve never juiced before. It will handle just about anything you can throw at it and you certainly can’t beat an honest, 10-year warranty. It’s one of the best masticating juicers we’ve seen but you’ve got to be a serious juicer to be making the investment. For some people, making this kind of initial $ commitment is a perfect kick-start to a healthy lifestyle.

At this time, Amazon.com is still showing the best deal on the Omega J8005. Check out the link for current discounts on the J8005.

Founded in the 1930s in Australia, Breville is now known around the world for its innovative design and product development.
Breville BJE200XL Juice Fountain Reviews

Without a doubt people online love this juicer. One of the first things we noticed when going over juicer reviews of the Breville BJE200XL was how the users were pleasantly surprised at the low noise levels. Centrifigal juice extractors are notoriously loud as their powerful motors spin the blade and mesh at such high RPMs. The Breville won points with most reviewers for being no louder than a blender with no discernable vibrations. The weight of the base is sturdy and made of quality materials.

Second, all universally dig the wide, 3-inch feed chute that allows for many vegetables like large carrots and cucumbers to go in whole. Having to cut up fruits prior to juicing them is akin to having to wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. It’s a known pain with juicers, so anything that reduces the time it takes to juice is a point in the juicer’s favor. Apples and beets can be fed in whole as long as they are small. It’s a good-size, too-don’t let the word “compact” in the name fool you-this is a full-fledged juicer that can provide enough juice for 4 without having to empty the pulp hopper.

As for the motor and knife assembly, Breville touts what they refer to as its “Cyclonic Juicing System” which supposedly aids in juice extraction. This sounds like market-speak to us, but the reality is that the Breville BJE200XL motor spins at around 13-14,000 RPMs, which is quite fast even for centrifugal juicers. Several commenters online remarked at how sharp the knife blade is and how you do have to be careful when cleaning. Hey, that’s a plus in our book.

Cleanup is always a sticky point with juicers, and the users were undoubtably impressed with the ease in keeping the Breville clean. Most reviewers pegged cleanup time at around two minutes-even faster if you own a dishwasher. As is the case with all centrifugal juicers, you must take care to manually clean the mesh blade screen. It can be thrown directly into the dishwasher later, but we at the Best Juicer Site always recommend that you scrub any particulate matter out of the screen by hand first. Most manufacturers provide a cleaning brush for this task, but you can substitute a toothbrush if needed.

That being said, the only point at which the reviewers were split on the BJE200XL was on the dryness of the pulp. Some complained that the pulp was wetter than they expected, which indicates low juice extraction levels. However, we found an equal number of comments online which said quite the opposite-that the pulp in the bin was quite dry. This is somewhat subjective and is not something we’d really give a negative point on.

We did find some negative comments, however, with regards to the feed chute. As the chute is very wide and the motor powerful, care must be taken to use the plunger (or your hand) to cover the chute as you put the food in. Otherwise it is possible for particles to possibly fly out toward the ceiling! Breville does not recommend placing food in the chute without using the plunger, however, so we will not consider this a design flaw.

Best Juicer Site Recommendation

In summary, we feel quite comfortable giving the Breville BJE200XL our recommendation. The combination of wide chute and powerful motor are big plusses for centrifugal juicers and the cleanup is relatively painless. The slightly smaller footprint means it can remain on your countertop which also means it will get used.

Shopping around you can find the Breville BJE200XL for around $100, which makes it an extremely good deal. At that price point Breville probably isn’t making a bundle as the components seem to be very good quality. We suspect this is the company’s attempt at gaining a foothold on the value market shopper. Breville is not known for cheap appliances, that’s for sure. Heck, a Breville toaster on their site sells for $130.

If you are looking to get into the juicing lifestyle as painlessly as possible it’s tough to go wrong with the BJE200XL. In our opinion, the low price point and quality Breville name make this an easy recommendation as one of the Best Juicers around.

We’ve found Amazon.com to have the best price including shipping on the Breville BJE200XL.
